The Philippines is a large group of islands with approx. 100 million people of whom many are poor. The country has excellent beaches, great water adventures and magnificent rice fields. English is widely spoken. Unfortunately it is also struck by Typhoons regularly and is battling Islamic extremist in the Southern provinces (e.g. Mindanao ~ dangerous). The Banaue Rice Terraces are 2,000-year-old terraces that were carved into the mountains. They are frequently called the "Eighth Wonder of the World".
